Alan Wayne Harper
1950-2009
A TRIBUTE TO A FRIEND AND PASTOR
Wayne Harper, my pastor and dear friend was promoted to his heavenly home on April 17, 2009 at the age of 58. He leaves behind his beloved wife Lorinda, their daughters Danyelle, Carrie, and Tami, their husbands Paul Harris, Tim Bourne, and Rob Griffith, and eight grandchildren. Pray for this wonderful family.
Wayne was saved in 1979 and answered God’s call to preach 25 years ago in 1984. His greatest strength was displayed as a caring shepherd/pastor of Flatwoods Missionary Baptist Church in Mountain View, Arkansas where he served from October 1995 until his death. Countless testimonies abound from people in the church and community recounting how Wayne touched their lives personally with the love of Jesus Christ during their time of need.
The Lord put us together as a ministry team for 17 of the last 18 years. Wayne served as associate pastor of Greenacres Missionary Baptist Church in Bossier City, Louisiana from 1991-1995 with me. I was his pastor; he became my pastor when Flatwoods MBC became my sending church as a missionary a little over a year later. On the Sunday that Jessie and I joined Flatwoods church, he brought the house down with laugher when he stepped out with a tee shirt with the inscription in bold red letters which read, “I’M THE BOSS NOW!”
Wayne Harper cared about his missionary. He phoned me almost every week in Lithuania, not merely to talk, but to listen. He visited the field often and the Lithuanian churches loved him.
Our friendship was truly a Jonathan and David relationship. He will be missed, but I will see him again!
